More on Suspect that Fled Police and Crashed into a Home in Burnsville
BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - The Burnsville Police Department has confirmed that 32-year-old Allontre Anthony Crowther is connected to the incident that occurred Thursday night in Burnsville, Minnesota, where a car fled police, crashed into the garage of a home, with the suspect then fleeing police on foot before being taken into custody a short time later.
According to the criminal complaint provided to us by the Burnsville Police Department from the Dakota County Attorney's Office, Allontre Crowther will be facing four charges, including Felony Fleeing a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Gross Misdemeanor Interference with an Emergency Call, Misdemeanor Domestic Assault (Intentionally Inflict or Attempt to Inflict Bodily Harm), and Misdemeanor Reckless Driving (Disregard Risk of Harm)
The criminal complaint states that around 4:33 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2023, officers with the Burnsville Police Department were called to a residence in Burnsville, Minnesota, for reports of a domestic assault that was occurring. A dispatcher with Dakota County reported they could hear a man [Mr. Crowther] in the background, refusing to leave the caller's apartment. According to the dispatcher, there was a lot of screaming, and a woman's voice could be heard saying, "Let go of me!" Mr. Crowther eventually left the apartment in a white SUV that was reportedly missing a bumper.
A Burnsville Police Officer in the area located a vehicle that matched that description and attempted a traffic stop on the SUV when they activated their emergency lights. Instead of stopping, Mr. Crowther accelerated and fled the officer. The criminal complaint states that once Mr. Crowther fled, the officer turned off their lights and followed the vehicle at normal speeds as they were in a residential area, and it was unsafe to pursue Mr. Crowther. We can also confirm this statement from the officers we spoke with at the accident scene. Residents in the area would eventually point officers in the direction Mr. Crowther fled. Officers would eventually find the vehicle crashed into the garage of a home near the intersection of Selkirk Road and Perrot Road. Officers found no one in the SUV when they arrived at the scene. At this point, aid from surrounding police agencies was called in, and a perimeter was created to look for Mr. Crowther.
Officers would additionally report there was significant structural damage to the garage. The Burnsville Fire Department would be called to ensure no injuries and that the structure was safe.
Mr. Crowther would eventually be found by a k9 hiding behind a nearby storage shed in a neighboring yard near the intersection of Slater Road and Cinnamon Ridge Trail. This location is technically in the neighboring city of Eagan, Minnesota, despite being just half a block or so away from where Mr. Crowther crashed the SUV. Following officers taking Mr. Crowther into custody and being given his Miranda rights, Mr. Crowther admitted to the police that he was in an argument with a woman [the victim] who was the mother of his son. The argument was over a phone he had of hers, and she would not let him leave until he gave it back. During an argument, Mr. Crowther admitted that he pushed her, but he stated it was out of self-defense. Mr. Crowther also admitted to fleeing from police when he saw the emergency lights.
Police spoke with the victim, who stated Mr. Crowther became angry with their son and threatened to hit him. When the victim intervened, Mr. Crowther hit the victim. The victim said they then punched Mr. Crowther to keep him away from the son, which was when Mr. Crowther took her phone and then threw it on the ground, and broke it as the victim was trying to call 911. According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Crowther had also assaulted her back in July when she was seven months pregnant by strangling her. From the altercation they had before Mr. Crowther fled on Thursday evening, she had scratches on her arms and neck that were bleeding. A witness who was on the phone with the victim during the altercation between Mr. Crowther and the victim also confirmed with police that Mr. Crowther threatened the son and was yelling at the victim.
According to the arrest records from the Dakota County Jail, Allontre Crowther has his first court appearance today around 2 PM in Hastings, Minnesota, where he will face the following charges per the criminal complaint from the Dakota County Attorney's Office:
