Burnsville’s Winter Lighting Ceremony
BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - The magic of the holiday season comes alive on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 6 p.m., as Burnsville’s annual Winter Lighting Ceremony returns to Nicollet Commons Park. This cherished tradition, hosted by the Burnsville Community Foundation, will once again light up the Heart of the City with a dazzling display of over 200,000 mini lights, 230 streetlight snowflakes, and a fully-lit 30-foot park tree.
The event, held the night before Thanksgiving, kicks off the holiday season with warmth and community spirit. Mayor Elizabeth Kautz, along with Santa and Mrs. Claus, will help “flip the switch,” officially illuminating the area. Attendees can enjoy live performances by Burnsville Freestyle and Swing, the Burnsville Youth Dance Ensemble, and the Burnsville Freestyle Singers.
Festive Refreshments
Guests can indulge in complimentary refreshments provided by Chick-fil-A, Faith Family Church, and the Original Pancake House. For those who prefer to stay cozy indoors, the lighting ceremony will be streamed online through BCTV, or on cable channels 14 and HD 799.
Sustainable Lights
Since 2009, the Winter Lighting Ceremony has used energy-efficient LED lights, reducing energy use by approximately 90% compared to traditional incandescent lighting.
A Community Tradition
The Winter Lighting Ceremony is made possible through the generosity of Burnsville’s residents and businesses. Over the past 20 years, the Burnsville Community Foundation has raised more than $600,000 to fund this beloved tradition, making it a signature event in the city.
