Sun Glare Causes Two Morning Accidents on Deerwood Drive in Eagan

EAGAN, MINNESOTA — The Eagan Police and Eagan Fire Department, with medical support from MHealth, responded to two traffic accidents this morning on Deerwood Drive, both attributed to sun glare impairing drivers' vision.

The first incident occurred at approximately 7:13 a.m. at the intersection of Deerwood and Horseshoe Circle. This crash was classified as a serious injury accident. The Eagan Police are investigating the accident. The Minnesota State Patrol provided Eagan Police assistance with accident reconstruction. Details on the extent of the injuries have not been released yet.

Just 15 minutes later, at 7:28 a.m., emergency personnel were called to a second crash at Deerwood and Rocky Road. This accident involved minor injuries. The driver and passenger were assessed by medics on the scene and cleared without requiring further treatment. The driver was cited as a result of the accident.

Both incidents were caused by the early morning sun obscuring drivers' views, a factor that police urge motorists to be mindful of, especially during the morning and evening hours when sunlight is at its strongest. Deerwood Drive was closed until about 10:30 AM for accident reconstruction but has since reopened, according to officials with the City of Eagan.
