Man Rescued from 250-Foot Radio Tower in Eagan After Early Morning Incident

EAGAN, MINNESOTA—According to the Eagan Police Department, in the early hours of Thursday morning, October 10, 2024, a 51-year-old man was rescued from the top of a 250-foot radio tower after a rescue operation by emergency personnel from the Eagan Police, Eagan Fire Department, and the Dakota County Special Operations Team (SOT).

Around 5:51 a.m. on October 10, concerned residents contacted authorities after hearing cries for help near the radio tower, located at 2110 Cliff Road, Salem Media Group. Responding officers quickly arrived at the scene and located the man perched near the top of the structure, about 250 feet in the air. Recognizing the danger of the situation, Eagan Fire and the SOT were called in for assistance. A specially trained SOT officer climbed to the top of the tower, safely secure the man, and bring him down. In a coordinated effort, the officer rappelled down the tower with the individual safely attached.

Authorities believe the man was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the incident. Due to prolonged exposure to the cold morning weather, he was transported to Region’s Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Eagan Police have confirmed for us the individual was not employed by Salem Media Group.
