Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police Seeks Community Support to Honor Fallen Burnsville Heroes

BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - The Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) is calling on the community to support efforts to honor three fallen heroes: Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, and Firefighter-Paramedic Adam Finseth. These brave individuals lost their lives during a tragic standoff in Burnsville, Minnesota, in February 2024.

Their sacrifices will be recognized at two solemn national events this year. On May 15, during National Peace Officers Memorial Day, Elmstrand and Ruge will be honored at a memorial service held at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Their names will be read aloud, and their families will receive posthumous FOP Medals of Valor. Meanwhile, Firefighter-Paramedic Finseth will be remembered at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on May 3-4 in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

The FOP has launched a fundraising campaign to ensure family members and colleagues of these heroes can attend these ceremonies and honor their memories. This effort received a significant boost with a generous $10,000 donation, contingent on matching contributions through their GoFundMe campaign.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the community to come together and double their impact,” said a representative from the Minnesota FOP. “The funds raised will cover travel expenses for family members and colleagues, ensuring these heroes are appropriately honored for their selflessness and bravery.”

The memorials are critical not only for recognizing the sacrifices of these public servants but also for supporting the healing of their loved ones and colleagues. Attending these events provides an opportunity for survivors and peers to connect with others who share similar losses and to see that their fallen loved ones are never forgotten. The Minnesota FOP is urging individuals, organizations, and businesses to contribute to the campaign to ensure the goal is met. Donations can be made through the GoFundMe campaign, and every dollar counts toward supporting this mission of remembrance.

“Adam, Paul, and Matt gave their lives in service to their community. Now, it’s our turn to come together as a community to honor them and support their families and colleagues,” the representative said.
