Incident on I-94 in Minneapolis Leads to Use of Force, No Injuries Reported

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA – Authorities are investigating an incident that occurred on the evening of September 21 on Southbound I-94 near Dowling Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Minnesota State Patrol and Minneapolis Police responded to a crash at approximately 10:15 PM, which quickly escalated into a situation requiring the use of deadly force.

According to the State Patrol, the initial response was to a reported crash in the area. Upon arrival, the situation intensified, leading to the use of force by law enforcement. Despite the severity of the situation, no injuries were reported during the encounter. The suspect involved was arrested without further incident. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has taken over the investigation into the use of force. Details on what prompted the escalation remain unclear, but authorities are conducting a thorough investigation.

All southbound traffic on Interstate 94 near Dowling Avenue has been diverted, with motorists being directed to exit at Dowling Avenue. Commuters are advised to avoid the area and find alternate routes until further notice.

Minnesota BCA Update on the Incident

Around 9:45 AM on September 22, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) released an additional update regarding the ongoing investigation. The eastbound lanes of I-94 remain closed between Dowling Avenue North and West Broadway as authorities continue processing the scene related to the State Patrol use-of-force incident. The BCA confirmed that there were no reported injuries in either the crash or the use-of-force event.

Motorists are advised to plan for continued delays in the area and monitor for updates on road closures. The BCA is expected to provide further details on the incident and the investigation as it progresses.

Around 11 AM, the BCA announced they completed their investigation and eastbound lanes of I-94 have reopened.
