Free Buckthorn Disposal in Burnsville: September and October Drop-Off Dates

BURNSVILLE, MN - Burnsville residents have an opportunity to clear their yards of buckthorn, an invasive plant species, at no cost this fall. The City of Burnsville is offering free buckthorn brush drop-off at its compost site on select weekends from the end of September through October.

The City’s compost site, located behind the businesses at 121st St. and Pleasant Ave., will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following weekends:

  • September 28-29

  • October 5-6

  • October 12-13

  • October 19-20

  • October 26-27

Only buckthorn brush will be accepted, so residents are encouraged to separate it from other yard waste before heading to the site.

Buckthorn is a fast-spreading, invasive species that can harm native plants and ecosystems. The City encourages residents to take advantage of this free service to help control the spread of buckthorn in the community to help enhance the usability of our woods, protect local wildlife, and prevent erosion.

This initiative is part of Burnsville’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental stewardship and maintain the natural beauty of the area.

This is an example of what invasive Buckthorn can do to the natural ecosystems over time. Provided by the City of Burnsville.
