UPDATE: Confirmed: Maddi Kingsbury's remains found; ex-partner arrested for suspected Second-degree murder
WINONA, MINNESOTA - The ex-boyfriend of Maddi Kingsbury and father of Maddi's two children was taken into custody this evening, Wednesday, June 7, 2023, just after 7 PM. Adam Fravel was arrested on probable cause concerning Maddi's disappearance and is being charged with the suspicion of second-degree with intent, not premeditated. According to a statement made by the Winona Police Department just after 9 PM this evening, human remains were found by a Fillmore County deputy Wednesday afternoon north of Mabel, Minnesota. They state the body was found in some brush off Highway 43 and was found through the information generated by police during their investigation into Maddi's disappearance. Several police agencies are quickly working to confirm the identity of the remains. He is currently being held at the Winona County Jail.
Maddi Kingsbury was last seen on March 31, 2023, when she dropped her children off at daycare that morning. According to the Winona Police Department, Adam Fravel confirmed he was her when she dropped the kids off that morning. He last saw her when they returned to their home before leaving to run errands. When Fravel returned a couple of hours later, he stated that Maddi was not there. Since her disappearance, friends, family, and thousands of volunteers have been conducting searches all across southeast Minnesota to find the missing mother or any clues into her disappearance. The Kingsbury family is offering a $50,000 reward for any information that leads them to her.
On Monday, May 15th, Fravel began a fight for custody of his two children, who had been placed under the care of their grandparents, Maddi's Mom and Dad, after her suspicious disappearance. The trial for custody of the two children was supposed to begin on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. However, it was canceled when an agreement between Fravel and Winona County was made that he could still see the children under supervision the evening before the trial.
Adam Fravel, through his attorney, claimed innocence in Maddi's disappearance and stated he had been absent from any of her searches for safety reasons.
