Hastings Man Killed in Vehicle-Pedestrian Accident in Dakota County

MARSHAN TOWNSHIP, MINNESOTA A tragic accident early this morning claimed the life of a 69-year-old Hastings man on County Road 46 near General Sieben Drive.

According to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 6:35 a.m. to a vehicle-pedestrian collision in Marshan Township. The incident began when the victim, who had been driving west on County Road 46, struck a deer. He pulled over onto the north shoulder and exited his vehicle to remove the deer from the roadway. While attempting to clear the obstruction, the man was struck by an eastbound vehicle. Another driver, who had stopped to assist, witnessed the collision.

Deputies arrived within one minute of the call and immediately provided lifesaving measures, but the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that struck the man was unharmed and is cooperating fully with investigators.

This incident is under investigation. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol. The Hastings Police and Fire Departments also provided support at the scene.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and friends on their tragic loss,” said the Sheriff’s Office in a statement.
