NEW MARKET TOWNSHIP, MINNESOTA - A terrifying armed robbery unfolded late Monday night, November 18, 2024, at the Red Fox Tavern in New Market Township, leaving two employees shaken but unharmed. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m., just as the last customers had left the establishment.
According to a Facebook post from the Red Fox Tavern, the suspect, described as a tall, slender man, entered the tavern armed with a handgun and issued demands. The two victims, who were employees at the Tavern, were restrained with zip ties and duct tape as the robber searched for cash. According to their Facebook post, the suspect repeatedly demanded access to the safe and other money on-site, taking the employees' phones to prevent them from calling for help. Despite the tense and frightening situation, the ordeal lasted only 15–20 minutes.
“He pointed his gun at us many times,” one employee recounted. “He wasn’t very smart and fumbled his gun multiple times, even leaving it behind a few times.”

The suspect reportedly instructed the victims not to move until 10:25 p.m. before fleeing the scene. The employees described him as approximately 6’2” tall, weighing no more than 180 pounds, with brown skin and a thin frame. He was dressed in all black, wearing a gray hoodie, a mesh mask, and what appeared to be a coiled plastic beard. His weapon was identified as a 9mm handgun. In a distressing moment, one of the employees pleaded with the robber not to take money intended for charity. The suspect’s actions and appearance left a lasting impression, with one employee comparing his outfit to a character from Spaceballs due to the mask and beard.
Their Facebook post mentioned how a younger staff member had already left for the night, avoiding the traumatic experience. Fortunately, no one was physically harmed during the incident.
The Red Fox Tavern announced it would remain closed on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, to allow employees time to recover. It plans to reopen on Wednesday.
