Burnsville Police Continue Investigation Into Red Oak Park Shooting, Issue Latest Update on Victims
BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - The Burnsville Police Department, led by Police Chief Tanya Schwartz, has provided an update on the ongoing investigation into the Red Oak Park shooting that occurred on Friday, August 30, 2024. The incident has deeply impacted the community, leaving residents concerned about safety and seeking answers.
In a statement, Chief Schwartz acknowledged the community's unease and stressed the complexity of the investigation. "I appreciate everyone’s patience as this complex investigation continues," said Schwartz. We have dozens of investigators diligently following all available leads. Our crime scene team continues to process evidence and look into all aspects of the scene. When incidents like this happen in our community, we all feel the trauma and loss of our collective sense of safety."
The shooting, which took place near the basketball court area of Red Oak Park in Burnsville, Minnesota, resulted in injuries to five males, aged 16, 17, 18, 18, and 19. Two of the victims remain hospitalized with serious injuries. Despite the extensive efforts of law enforcement, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active.
Chief Schwartz assured residents that the Burnsville Police Department is committed to bringing those responsible to justice. "We will not tolerate violence in our community and are committed to finding those responsible," she stated. The department is working closely with federal, state, and local partners, including the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, to gather evidence and follow leads.
To date, approximately 50 witnesses have been interviewed, and law enforcement officers have canvassed the neighborhood in search of additional information. The Burnsville Police Department is asking the public to review any home surveillance footage from the evening of August 30 between 7:45 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and to contact Detective Mitch Carlson at 952-641-1156 if they have any relevant information.
As the investigation continues, Burnsville Police have increased patrols in the Red Oak Park area to ensure the safety of residents. "We know residents may feel uneasy, and we take seriously our duty to find those responsible and bring them justice," said Chief Schwartz. "I want to thank the community members who have provided information to date and encourage anyone with additional information to come forward."
