Savage Man Charged with Fleeing Police, Possession of Stolen Vehicle Following Burnsville Incident
BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA—A Savage resident, 34-year-old Ahmed Hassan Farah, faces multiple felony charges after allegedly fleeing from law enforcement in two separate incidents in Dakota County in August 2024. Farah is accused of fleeing from police in motor vehicles and later attempting to evade arrest on foot, prompting a high-stakes series of pursuits across multiple jurisdictions.
The First Incident on August 16, 2024
On Friday, August 16, 2024, a State Trooper observed a red Dodge Dart in Burnsville, Dakota County, with a male driver allegedly not wearing a seatbelt and two female passengers. According to the criminal complaint from the Dakota County Attorney’s Office, the Trooper activated his lights and sirens, prompting the vehicle to briefly stop before allegedly speeding away through an apartment parking lot. The driver, later identified as Farah, reportedly maneuvered the car evasively, forcing the officer to end the pursuit due to safety concerns.
Two days later, the red Dodge Dart was discovered in Minneapolis and towed. When police interviewed the registered owner, they learned he had allegedly lent the vehicle to his brother, Ahmed Hassan Farah, while he was out of the country. Farah allegedly later admitted to law enforcement that he had been driving the car during the August 16, 2024 incident. He reportedly told police he knew he had outstanding warrants and did not want his family members to witness an arrest.
Second Incident on August 26
Another pursuit involving Farah occurred on Monday, August 26, 2024, and began at the Menards located at Highway 13 West in Burnsville, Minnesota. Responding to a reported theft in progress, the criminal complaint from the Dakota County Attorney’s Office states that Burnsville Officers observed a suspect matching Farah’s description flee to a blue Subaru Forester. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Farah allegedly sped through the crowded parking lot and onto the highway frontage road. Law enforcement terminated the pursuit due to the danger posed to other vehicles and pedestrians.
However, according to the criminal complaint, the pursuit resumed when Bloomington police spotted the Forester on I-35W. This led to a high-speed chase that ended with Farah crashing near 66th Street and I-35W and attempting to flee on foot. Richfield police quickly apprehended him. According to reports, the Subaru Forester was confirmed stolen out of Minneapolis.
Charges and Bail Request
Farah faces several felony charges, including two counts of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and one count of receiving stolen property. The Dakota County Attorney’s Office requested bail be set at $20,000 without conditions and $15,000 with conditions, citing concerns about Farah's previous failure to appear in court, active warrants out of Hennepin County, and his probation status for a previous robbery conviction. The conditions include court-approved travel restrictions, exclusion from a Menards store in Burnsville, and participation in a pretrial release program. The request also highlights concerns about public safety, referencing Farah’s driving at high speeds in the wrong direction during the August 26 pursuit and two collisions with other vehicles before the final crash. Court records show that he has not posted bail and remains in custody at Dakota County Jail as of the writing of this story.
Farah was scheduled to be in court this morning, Monday, October 28, 2024, for an alleged plea hearing. His next court appearance is a sentencing hearing set for 1:30 PM on January 14, 2025.
This article provides an overview of the allegations against Farah, detailing the charges, evidence, and potential legal outcomes.
