UPDATED: Fatal Vehicle vs Pedestrian Crash in Eagan: Investigation Continues

EAGAN, MINNESOTA – Updated - 12:30 PM, Monday, August 5th: According to a press release from officials from the Eagan Police Department, a 17-year-old driver was driving westbound on Yankee Doodle Road just west of Golfview Drive when they struck a 65-year-old pedestrian in the traffic lane. Officials have confirmed the vehicle's driver remained at the scene, and they continue to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.

The victim, who officials have identified as Xai Vang, was transported to Regions Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased from their injuries.

The investigation remains open and active, and the Minnesota State Patrol is providing accident reconstruction assistance. We will provide additional updates as more information is released. Our original story is below.


ORIGINAL STORY - On the evening of Saturday, August 3rd, at approximately 9:35 PM, a tragic incident occurred at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Yankee Doodle Road in Eagan. A vehicle struck a pedestrian, resulting in a fatal crash.

An Eagan Fire Chief, initially responding to a house fire call on Turquoise Trail, encountered the crash en route. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the fire chief upgraded the original fire call to a second alarm to request mutual aid, allowing him to focus on the serious crash. Eagan Engine 2 was diverted to the medical emergency, and Eagan Police, Minnesota State Patrol, and MHealth EMS were also called.

The Minnesota State Patrol was on the scene to assist with accident reconstruction, indicating the seriousness of the investigation. At this time, details remain limited as the investigation is ongoing. However, Eagan police have confirmed that this was not a hit-and-run incident. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

The pedestrian was transported to Regions Hospital with critical injuries but, unfortunately, did not survive. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of family members. Eagan Police have confirmed the fatality and assured the public that more information will be provided in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
