Gunshot Reported in Burnsville Leads to an 8-Hour Stand-off, Suspect in Custody
BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA—Around 8:30 PM on Saturday, March 30, 2024, the Burnsville Police Department received a report of a gunshot heard inside a residence in the 15800 block of Buck Hill Road in Burnsville, Minnesota [Sunny Acres Mobile Home Park].
Once officers got on the scene, they determined which residence the gunshot came from, according to a press release from the City of Burnsville. Officers determined that the woman who was believed to have fired the gun was still in the residence, and due to the public safety threat, a shelter-in-place was issued for the area. Police additionally evacuated a few nearby residences out of an abundance of caution.
Over the next several hours, officers contacted and attempted to negotiate with the suspect. According to the press release, by around 4:30 AM on Sunday, March 31, the suspect was taken into custody using K9 apprehension. They transported the suspect to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Two Tri-City Tactical Team members sustained minor injuries during this incident and were transported to local hospitals to receive medical attention. The cause of their injuries and their condition are not known at this time. Following the suspect's arrest, the shelter-in-place order for that area was lifted as there was no longer an ongoing threat to public safety.
Several regional partners assisted Burnsville Police with this incident, including the Bloomington, Lakeville, Eagan, Apple Valley, Plymouth, Savage Police Departments, Dakota, Hennepin, Scott County Sheriffs, and the Tri-City tactical team. The Burnsville Fire Department was also on the scene for medical assistance.
