Roseville Man Faces Felony Theft Charges in Dakota County

LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA - A 20-year-old Roseville man, Siadinx Chuban Asambang, has been charged with felony theft in Dakota County after being linked to multiple incidents of shoplifting from a retail store in Lakeville. Court documents reveal that the total value of items allegedly stolen between November 7 and December 28, 2024, exceeds $1,400.

The criminal complaint from the Dakota County Attorney’s Office states that law enforcement was contacted by Target loss prevention staff on January 2, 2025, regarding a series of thefts captured on surveillance footage. Investigators identified Asambang through video recordings and store records.

Allegations of Theft

According to the criminal complaint, the first incident occurred on November 7, 2024, when Asambang reportedly stole an item valued at $579.99. In a subsequent theft on November 18, he allegedly took numerous items worth $348.73. During this incident, Asambang is accused of threatening a store employee who attempted to intervene, muttering "closer" and "kill you," prompting the employee to retreat from Asambang.

The complaint states that the most recent theft allegedly occurred on December 28, when Asambang was seen taking a tool from the hardware section and electronics valued at $500.96. In each instance, he left the store without attempting to pay.

Criminal History and Charges

Court records show that Asambang faces a felony theft charge, carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000. Prosecutors have cited his history of theft-related offenses in requesting bail conditions.

Court records also show that Asambang had been convicted of misdemeanor theft following an incident at the Walmart in Roseville, Minnesota, on August 9, 2024. In connection with the guilty verdict, he was sentenced on December 26, 2024, to serve 12 days in jail, for which he had already been given credit.

Bail and Conditions

Court documents show that the Dakota County Attorney’s Office requested his bail be set at $10,000 without conditions and $6,000 with conditions. Court records show that the prosecutors highlighted concerns about Asambang’s escalating behavior, noting that he has a history of non-violent thefts but has now made threats during an offense. They also referenced an uncharged theft in Hastings, Minnesota, where statements from Asambang that his actions stem from homelessness. At his first appearance hearing on January 6th, the court set bail at $10,000 without conditions or $3,000 with conditions. Additionally, he is prohibited from visiting any Target properties in Dakota County.

Next Steps

His next court appearance is January 30, 2025, at 9 AM in Hastings, Minnesota. As of writing this story, his bond has not been posted, and he remains in custody at the Dakota County Jail.

This article provides an overview of the allegations against Asambang, detailing the charges, evidence, and potential legal outcomes.
