Wrong-Way Driver Crashes on County Road 42 in Apple Valley
APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA—A 36-year-old St. Paul man was involved in a wrong-way crash in Apple Valley on Monday night, February 24, 2025. The vehicle involved in the crash was connected to an incident early that evening in Inver Grove Heights, where the vehicle had fled from law enforcement, according to officials with the Apple Valley Police Department.
According to a crash report from the Apple Valley Police Department, the driver was operating a 2009 Chevy Trailblazer and was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of County Road 42 (150th Street West) when he collided with a stop light at the intersection of County Road 42 and Johnny Cake Ridge Road. The stop light was reported to have sustained no damage. The crash report states the driver was found to have a revoked license and no insurance at the time of the crash. Police also noted that he was speeding and driving recklessly before the crash had occurred.
According to Apple Valley officials, Apple Valley police were not in pursuit of this vehicle, nor was any department when the crash occurred. The vehicle was not reported to be a stolen vehicle. We will contact Inver Grove Heights Police for more information on the earlier incident and will provide an update once we know more.
The Apple Valley Fire Department and Allina Health responders were dispatched to the crash scene. It was reported that the vehicle's driver had to be mechanically extricated as a result of the severity of the crash. He was then transported by Allina paramedics to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The driver was reported to have sustained serious injuries.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding potential charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
