UPDATED: Neighbor's quick action saves home from fire in Waukesha, Wisconsin

WAUKESHA, WISCONSIN - Around 4:12 PM on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, a 911 call came in from a neighbor in the 500 block of West College Avenue in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The neighbor reported hearing the fire alarm going off in the neighboring home. The neighbor could reportedly see smoke and flashes coming from inside the home. The neighbor also reported that they thought the home was empty.

The first Waukesha Fire units arrived on the scene around four minutes after the call came out and confirmed seeing smoke coming from the back of the home and confirmed it was a working fire. Crews entered the home and began to extinguish the fire and also confirmed the home was clear and no one was in the residence. Due to the fire, Waukesha Fire requested West College Avenue be shut down between Walton Avenue and Waverly Place. Five ambulances, two ladders, three engines, a battalion, and a chief were all called to the scene of this fire.

The Waukesha Fire quickly got the fire under control and was doing some minor overhaul by 4:30 PM. The scene cleared and crews left the scene by around 6:16 PM. In an update from the Waukesha Fire Department, they report that the fire caused $65,000 in damage and there were no injuries in the fire. The cause of the fire is still not known.
