Two Drivers Injured in Semi and SUV Collision on I-35 in Rice County

WEBSTER TOWNSHIP, MINNESOTA—According to the Minnesota State Patrol, two drivers were taken to the hospital on Monday morning, June 9, 2025, after a collision between a semi-truck and a jeep on southbound I-35 just outside of Northfield, Minnesota, in Rice County.

The Minnesota State Patrol states the crash occurred around 11:05 a.m. near Mile Marker 71 in Webster Township, Minnesota. A 2022 International semi-truck and a 2011 Jeep Liberty, both traveling southbound, collided under circumstances still being investigated.

The driver of the Jeep, an 18-year-old from Lyle, Minnesota, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The semi driver, a 22-year-old from Council Bluffs, Iowa, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for medical care. Officials confirmed that both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.

The Rice County Sheriff’s Office, Northfield Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the scene and assisted with the incident.
