FARMINGTON, MINNESOTA – A 52-year-old Farmington man is facing two felony charges of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his wife multiple times in a violent domestic assault earlier this week. The Dakota County Attorney’s Office has charged Mehdi Badaoui with Attempted First-Degree Murder (Premeditated) and Attempted Second-Degree Murder (With Intent) stemming from an incident that occurred on the morning of April 15, 2025.
Farmington Police were dispatched to a home on Goldfinch Drive around 8:30 a.m. after a woman called 911, screaming that she had been stabbed and could no longer move. Upon arrival, officers located Badaoui in the garage with visible blood on his hands and took him into custody.
Inside the residence, officers found the victim, Badaoui’s wife, lying on her side in a pool of blood inside a bedroom. According to the criminal complaint from the Dakota County Attorney’s Office, she had suffered approximately 10 stab wounds, including to her right armpit and neck/shoulder area. First responders applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding from one of her arm wounds before she was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.
According to the criminal complaint, the Doctors described the victim’s injuries as severe, with significant blood loss and multiple life-threatening wounds. She was, however, able to speak briefly with investigators and stated that Badaoui attacked her during a verbal argument, reportedly triggered by suspicions of infidelity. The victim told officers that Badaoui had beaten her and threatened her with a knife on several prior occasions.
The criminal complaint states that a second woman, identified as a witness and resident of the home, told police she was awakened by yelling and saw Badaoui actively stabbing the victim. The witness said Badaoui then dragged the victim through the kitchen and into a bedroom. She stated that Badaoui told her he was going to kill his wife and go to jail. The witness also said Badaoui had previously choked the victim and repeatedly threatened to kill her. She expressed concerns for the couple’s children, who she said were afraid of him.
According to court records, during a post-arrest interview at the Farmington Police Department, Badaoui admitted to planting a GPS tracker in his wife’s vehicle and following her movements. He said he saw her car parked somewhere other than her workplace that morning, which prompted him to confront her. The confrontation continued at their home, where he claimed the victim began calling him names and tried to scratch his face. Badaoui told officers he then grabbed a knife from the kitchen counter and began "hitting" her with it, later admitting to stabbing her multiple times in a rage.
The criminal complaint states that a bloodied pocketknife with tissue on the blade was recovered from the scene.
Badaoui‘s bail was set at $1 million without conditions and $750,000 with conditions. Court records show that his bail has not been paid, and he remains in custody at the Dakota County Jail in Hastings, Minnesota. His next court date is set for May 1st at 9 AM in Hastings, Minnesota.
“The facts in this case are shocking and the terror the victim endured is unthinkable,” said County Attorney Keena. “I’m grateful to the Farmington Police Department and the first responders who provided life-saving aid. My thoughts continue to be with the victim as she recovers.”
This article provides an overview of the allegations against Badaoui, detailing the charges, evidence, and potential legal outcomes. The community is reminded that charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Further updates on this case will depend on the progress of the legal proceedings.
