Motorcyclist Killed in Farmington Crash; Two Others Injured

FARMINGTON, MINNESOTA – LAST UPDATE: A tragic crash in Farmington Tuesday evening claimed the life of a local motorcyclist and left two others injured.

According to a press release from the Farmington Police Department, officers were dispatched at 4:17 p.m. on April 22, 2025 to a serious two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 212th Street West (Highway 50) and Dushane Parkway.

The initial investigation indicates that a 2006 Ford Freestyle SUV, driven by 82-year-old Earl Schlotman of Farmington, was traveling westbound on 212th Street and attempting to turn south onto Dushane Parkway. The SUV crossed into the path of an eastbound 2006 Yamaha motorcycle, resulting in a collision on the passenger side of the SUV. Despite lifesaving efforts, the motorcyclist—identified as 25-year-old Tyler Wrobel of Farmington—was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed that Wrobel was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the SUV, Earl Schlotman, sustained minor injuries and was transported by Allina-ALF ground ambulance to Fairview Ridges Hospital. His passenger, Janice Schlotman, also 82 and from Farmington, suffered more serious injuries and was airlifted by Life Link III to Hennepin County Medical Center. Both occupants of the SUV were wearing seatbelts.

“This investigation is in the early stages, and we have made no determinations as to the cause of this tragic crash. I would ask the public to withhold speculation out of respect for both families involved in this incident,” said Deputy Police Chief Nate Siem in the release. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to Mr. Wrobel’s family, and we wish the Schlotmans a speedy recovery.”

Highway 50 was closed for several hours as authorities investigated and cleared the scene.

The Farmington Police Department expressed gratitude to the Farmington Fire Department, Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Allina-ALF Ambulance, Life Link III, and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office for their assistance.

No additional information will be released at this time.
