UPDATED: Multi-Vehicle Accident on Galaxie Avenue Involves Three Vehicles, Driver Cited

APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA—Tuesday afternoon, a three-vehicle crash occurred on Galaxie Avenue at Flagstone Trail in Apple Valley, Minnesota. There were minor traffic delays, and crews worked to clear the crash and investigate its cause.

The crash occurred around 4:14 PM Tuesday, August 20, 2024, and involved at least three vehicles. The accident blocked the outside right lanes of both the northbound and southbound Galaxie Avenue, leading to traffic delays as authorities worked to manage the situation. According to the Apple Valley Police Department's investigation, the incident began when a southbound Toyota Corolla collided with the rear of a Honda Accord that was waiting to turn left onto eastbound Flagstone Trail. The Accord driver could not make the turn due to oncoming traffic. The Corolla, traveling at a speed too fast for the conditions, could not stop in time and struck the rear of the Accord.

Following the impact, the Accord was pushed into oncoming traffic, colliding with a northbound Chrysler Town & Country. The collision caused moderate damage to the Accord's rear and disabling damage to its front. The Town & Country sustained moderate damage to the passenger side near the "B" pillar and damage to the passenger-side wheel from hitting the curb. All three vehicles were towed from the scene by Dick's Valley Service.

The driver of the Corolla admitted to being distracted by looking at the clock inside her vehicle, which caused her to notice the slowing Accord too late. She swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful. The Corolla sustained disabling damage to the front, and the driver was cited for failing to drive with due care and traveling at a speed greater than reasonable for the conditions. The driver of the Accord reported possible minor injuries and was assessed by emergency medical personnel on the scene but wasn’t transported.

The Apple Valley Police Department, Apple Valley Fire Department, ALF Ambulance, and Dick's Valley Towing responded promptly to the scene. All fire units were cleared by 4:39 PM.
