Competition Narrows for $100,000 Hatch Bloomington Business Award

BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA – The City of Bloomington and the Minneapolis Regional Chamber have announced the Top 3 finalists for the prestigious Hatch Bloomington retail pitch competition. This event is a major initiative aimed at revitalizing the city’s commercial corridors and supporting local small businesses.

The finalists, who were chosen after a rigorous selection process involving pitches to a judging panel and a week of online community voting, are:

  1. Kalsoni: This startup is dedicated to empowering women and girls by offering modest and culturally sensitive activewear. Beyond apparel, Kalsoni emphasizes wellness initiatives, community engagement, and support for women’s health.

2. Nunaa: Nunaa is a takeout and reservation-based restaurant concept focused on authentic West African cuisine. With its unique menu, the restaurant aims to fill a noticeable gap in Bloomington’s culinary offerings.

3. Scramblin' Egg: Known for its quick-service breakfast foods, Scramblin' Egg is transitioning from a popular food truck to a permanent brick-and-mortar location. This move aims to better serve its growing customer base and expand its community presence.

The competition will culminate in the Hatch-Off event tomorrow, Thursday, August 22, at 6 p.m. in the Black Box Theater at Bloomington Civic Plaza. This event will showcase the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of the finalists, who will pitch their concepts to the public and a panel of judges. Community members are encouraged to attend in person at 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road or watch via livestream at blm.mn/hatchtop3.

Following the Hatch-Off, community voting will open on August 22 and continue through Thursday, August 29. Residents of Bloomington and the surrounding areas can vote online for the business they believe should win the $100,000 business assistance award. The winner will be announced in early September.

Hatch Bloomington is a collaborative effort between the City of Bloomington and the Minneapolis Regional Chamber. The competition offers aspiring entrepreneurs financial support and extensive exposure and access to a robust business network, making it a valuable opportunity for small business growth in the region.
