UPDATED: Collision Involving Car and Boy on Bicycle in Apple Valley

According to police records and the crash report from the Apple Valley Police Department, a 23-year-old female driver of a Kia Forte was traveling southbound on Garrett Avenue near the intersection of 153rd Street West, which is a four-way stop. According to the police report, witnesses stated that the Kia Forte slowed when it arrived at the intersection but didn’t make a complete stop when attempting to make a right turn or yield to a bicyclist entering the crosswalk. The Kia collided with a bicyclist and then stopped following the accident.

The police report states the bicyclist was reportedly a 12-year-old boy who was transported via ALF Ambulance to Children’s Hospital Minneapolis for injuries to their extremities and head. The extent of those injuries was not reported.

The Kia driver was cited for failure to yield (the duty to drive with due care to avoid colliding with a bicyclist). The police report states that the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, was not distracted, and was not speeding when the crash occurred. It was reported that it was dark when the accident occurred and the street lights were on.

ORIGINAL STORY - APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA — On Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, at approximately 8:52 PM, emergency personnel from the Apple Valley Police Department and Apple Valley Fire Department responded to an accident at the intersection of 153rd Street and Garrett Avenue near the Post Office in Apple Valley, Minnesota.

We know the incident involved a collision between a car and a young boy on a bicycle. However, details about the accident remain limited. Authorities have not yet disclosed the boy's condition or any information regarding the driver involved in the incident. All units cleared the scene by around 9:20 PM.

First responders, including police officers and medical personnel, were promptly on the scene to provide necessary aid and begin their investigation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
