West St. Paul Man Killed in High-Speed Crash After Domestic Disturbance

WEST ST PAUL, MINNESOTA - A 35-year-old man was pronounced dead early Sunday morning following a high-speed crash that occurred shortly after he fled the scene of a reported domestic disturbance.

According to the West St Paul Police Department, at approximately 1:43 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, they received a call from a female resident reporting a domestic disturbance at a local home. The caller stated that the man, who was reportedly intoxicated and under the influence of drugs, had been threatening those inside the residence and damaging property. During the 911 call, dispatchers could hear the sounds of a male shouting and what appeared to be objects being thrown inside the home.

Officers quickly responded to the scene and soon spotted the man’s vehicle traveling eastbound on Moreland Avenue. When police attempted to stop the vehicle to arrest the driver on charges related to domestic assault, the suspect fled, initiating a brief pursuit.

Just a few blocks from the attempted traffic stop, the driver lost control while crossing Robert Street. The vehicle struck a power pole and collided with two unoccupied vehicles parked in a driveway near Moreland Avenue and Kruse Street. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Emergency medics were immediately dispatched to the scene, but the driver was pronounced dead upon their arrival.

Officials with the West St. Paul Police Department have requested that the Mendota Heights Police Department investigate the crash. The Minnesota State Patrol will conduct a crash reconstruction to determine the full details of the incident. The scene remains active, and further details will be released as the investigation progresses.

No other individuals were injured in the crash.
