ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA — It is with great sadness that we report that the search for 42-year-old Shuefuab Xiong, who had been missing since January 14, 2025, has come to a tragic end.
At approximately 12:10 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2024, officers from the Saint Paul Police Department responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Rice Street following a 911 call reporting a mental health crisis. The caller identified the individual in crisis as their brother, Shuefuab Xiong, who had been reported missing by Apple Valley police days earlier. The family member informed officers that Xiong was threatening to take his own life and had access to firearms inside the residence.
Upon arrival, officers prioritized the safety of family members in the home, instructing them to exit the building while making multiple attempts to contact Xiong. Despite the family's efforts to persuade him to come out and seek help, Xiong ran from the building and onto Geranium Avenue West, where he tragically took his own life.
Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, Xiong was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Ongoing Investigation
According to officials with the Saint Paul Police Department, the circumstances of this incident remain under investigation as law enforcement works to piece together the events leading up to Xiong's death.

The Saint Paul Police Department has extended its deepest condolences to Xiong’s family during this incredibly difficult time. His disappearance and the subsequent search had galvanized the community, with family and friends organizing search efforts and urging the public to assist in locating him.

They are also grateful to all those who helped search for Xiong and provided information to the department during this challenging week.
