Burnsville Fire Department Hosts Blood Drive to Support Whole Blood Program
BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA –The City of Burnsville is calling on residents to donate blood as part of a community-wide blood drive to support the city’s new whole blood program within its ambulance service. The event, scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, will occur at Fire Station 1 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann emphasized the critical need for blood donations, particularly during the early months of the year when donations typically decline. “In January and February, there is generally a drop in blood donations in Minnesota, and our teams want to call attention to the need to donate blood during this important time,” Jungmann stated. “With our new whole blood program, we need to support blood donations so we can best serve our community in this life-saving endeavor.”
The city’s ambulance service made history in January 2025 by becoming Minnesota's first ground-based emergency medical provider to administer whole blood transfusions in emergencies. This advancement allows first responders to treat patients more effectively than traditional saline-based solutions, improving survival rates in critical conditions.
“Our first responders are encouraging the community to take the time to donate blood alongside us on March 4,” Jungmann said. “Giving blood takes less than an hour and can have an impact that lasts a lifetime. Let’s roll up our sleeves and help save lives.”
The blood drive will be hosted at Burnsville Fire Station 1, located at 14275 Newtown Avenue South, with Memorial Blood Center staff on-site to facilitate donations. Community members interested in participating can sign up for a time slot through the official registration page.
